CNN —Ryōyū Kobayashi might have bettered the world ski jump record by nearly 40 meters on Wednesday, but the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) says it won’t recognize the Japanese jumper’s landmark effort as it didn’t meet the governing body’s competition conditions. Kobayashi flew through the air for around 10 seconds before delivering a smooth landing on Wednesday, video shows. “A ski flying competition must be based on a FIS-certified distance measuring system and take place on a ski flying hill homologated by FIS in order to stand up to comparison with other flights and be eligible for an official ski flying record,’ added the FIS. Austrian Stefan Kraft holds the FIS record for the longest competitive ski jump for a male after landing a 253.5m (831 ft 8.31 in) jump in Vikersund, Norway, in 2017. Even if I’m worried, I’ve no choice.”Kobayashi, aiming to jump some 984 ft (300 meters) still has his sights set on that landmark.

CNN —A portrait by Gustav Klimt that was unseen for almost a century has sold for $32 million – the bottom end of its pre-auction estimate. The sale price was less than half that fetched by another Klimt painting – “Dame mit Fächer” (Lady with a Fan) – in London last year. The last portrait completed by Klimt became the most expensive artwork ever to sell at a European auction, when it sold for a £85.3 million ($108.4 million). However, new research by the auction house suggests Justus’ wife, Lilly, hired him to paint one of their two daughters. A cape richly decorated with flowers is draped around her shoulders,” the auction house said.

In my case, love of this world, love of nature, love of our life in and as part of it. New York City’s winter leaf cover has been blown away and stuffed into large, shiny, pristine black plastic bags. That’s just what I spotted in the first mile of a recent walk along Riverside Drive heading south from the 150s. It was an unseasonably warm winter, a concept that could be rendered meaningless within a decade, as memories of snowfall fade. CNN —In the land of Hello Kitty, kawaii (“cute”) culture and the Neo-Pop art of 1990s Japan, Tetsuya Ishida was an outlier. An untitled 2004 acrylic and oil painting by late Japanese artist Tetsuya Ishida from the Gagosian retrospective "My Anxious Self." Ishida, who had gone to art school, worked part-time at a print shop and as a night security guard. Many of the 200 or so paintings Ishida completed in his lifetime portray the gloom of becoming a cog in the economic machine. Another painting entitled "Gripe," painted by Ishidia in 1996, portrays a Japanese salaryman with lobster claws for hands.

The window of the British interior designer Tamsin Saunders’s childhood bedroom looked out onto the South Downs, the rolling hills that culminate abruptly in steep chalk cliffs along England’s southeast coast. New COVID-19 hospitalizations have declined for the third week in a row following the late summer increase of coronavirus in the U.S.Last week saw more than 18,100 new COVID-19 hospital admissions – a 6% decrease from the week prior – according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
